Even though we live in the twenty-first century there still aren’t many female trumpeters sitting at the top of the brass section in professional orchestras. I am one of those few. Frankly, while giving a master class to fellow professionals and college trumpet students in Greece a few years ago, I realized that I know no one with the same credentials as me: principal trumpet of a great orchestra, soloist with CD released, K-12 music education degree and teaching experience, middle aged, single mom, three kids, recent D.M.A. graduate achieved as a single mom while working, and also many years’ experience as professor of trumpet (adjunct) at various universities. Life is dynamic, to say the least, yet I maintain a degree of peace and centeredness amidst the day-to-day chaos because I am grateful. I love being a professional trumpeter. I love teaching music and enjoy my students. I love my kids and appreciate their uniqueness and intensity (most of the time :), and even though my plate is truly overflowing I know that everything on my to-do list I enjoy
.
Somehow I managed to balance my life responsibilities with my passion to continue performing and teaching as a professional artist, and now I want to share my experience with others. I have learned so many strategies for surviving and thriving, and I know I can help make things easier for others in similar situations. Because I have had to do so much with so little time, I became extremely efficient, and as a trumpeter I can coach comeback player with the confidence that it is truly possible to become fluent and expressive on the instrument again, and it doesn’t have to be intimidating to begin again. I know how to do this, to teach it, and to encourage and inspire those that miss playing and think it might be too late, or too hard, or too time-consuming, etc. I was fortunate to study with one of the most respected trumpeters of the 20th century, Armando Ghitalla, and his legacy has enabled my own trumpet artistry to survive the chaos for myself, and apply his teaching to my students. Excellence is achievable every step of the way, and it is with excellence that the enjoyment and expression emerge.
I inspire people and instill hope through my platform of online coaching and teaching to empower former trumpeters to reconnect with their passion for creative expression by re-learning to play trumpet again. Excellence is attainable at all levels of expertise. Music is an incredible creative force and we help make the world brighten one trumpeter at a time.
